Day 1 - 27.3. - Flight to Lukla (First try)
Smooth flight but low visibility. Therefore we had to return to Kathmandu. :-(

Kathmandu Airport Airport Kathmandu
Anyway, quite intersting to see how the security is handled. They do everything excactly as at international airports. Wonder what they think where you might want to take the plane to after hijacking it. At first there is the baggage check with a machine that looks like one of those X-ray scanners - I did not notice anybody really looking at the monitor. The metal detector is next. And even though no beep was heard; the body check is inclusive. You get your baggage back and can proceede the 30 yards to the check in.

After waiting quite a while the baggage is taken to the plane and you can proceede to the waiting hall. Of course before you have to pass the passport and cabin luggage check. In the waiting hall it takes a lot of time again.
Then the airport bus arrives and takes you close to the plane. After a bit more waiting it moves to the plane and you can prepare to get into the plane. In this case it was a 21-seat one. Seven on the left side and 14 and the right. Everybody tries to get into a good position for the run on the good view places - since Lukla is east of Kathmandu it's the left side which means only seven people will be lucky.

The flight to Kathmandu was via Vienna and the details on the airfield do not look that much different. Though the passenger areas are much nicer in Vienna. Kathmandu Airport
